Kelsey's Art Residency in Italy - May 2024
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Kelsey Duncan and I am an artist and educator currently based in Tennessee. I am excited to announce that I have been given the honor of embarking on a five-week artist residency in Italy this coming May. This is a competitive and highly sought after opportunity, and something that just can’t be passed up.
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to raise money to help cover basic housing expenses in Rome during this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
The residency will be hosted by C.R.E.T.A, an art center located in the heart of the historic district of Rome. I have wanted to explore this opportunity for some time. Now, it is finally possible to make this research trip a reality. I have been able to get some funding to assist with the residency and material and firing costs; however, after applying for multiple grants, fundraisers and gaining partial support through my employer, I still need further assistance to help with the cost of lodging in Rome. I have reserved a small and modest studio apartment walking distance from the residency center, and I am launching this GoFundMe to help pay for it.
During this residency, I will have completely focused time to dedicate to my practice and to developing a new body of work. Given the focus of my ongoing research, I feel that this would be an extremely relevant and informative place for me to focus on my practice. At the end of my residency, I will have an exhibition at the C.R.E.T.A Gallery to conclude my time there.
I have been extremely fortunate to be able to pursue a career as an artist and educator for close to 20 years. This path has expanded my world view exponentially and has allowed me to learn from and engage with many extraordinary artists nationally. However, at this stage in my career, I have made it a priority to expand my research and creative practice to an international level. An international residency such as this will give me focused time in a place designed to facilitate new connections and to make creative breakthroughs.
I have created approximately 50+ pots that are also a part of this fundraising effort. These include wheel thrown cups, mugs, bowls, pitchers, plates and vase forms. Those that donate $65 or more will have the option to receive a piece of pottery as a “thank you.”
These will be shipped out once I return from Rome in June 2024. I will posting images of the of the available pieces on my Instagram throughout the next several weeks. Also, while I am there I will be sending out regular email updates to donors to share images and details of this exciting experience.
Thank you so much for your interest and potential support!
