Fueling Veronica's Trips to Baby Declan

Hi! I am Melanie, and I am raising funds for my son, Sam, and my daughter-in-love, Veronica, and my new grandson, Declan “Ducky”.

On May 5th, 2024, Veronica gave birth to Declan Emrys Shockley. He was so ready to be born, he came 6 weeks early! Susanville doesn’t have a NICU, so they flew Veronica out to Reno and delivered Declan by emergency C-section. That is a 1 hour 30 minute drive, one way.

Declan has been having his moments of doing really well and then taking some baby steps backwards. They don’t know when he will be able to go home. Veronica has been driving out every other day to see Declan, and to deliver the milk she has pumped for him.

We all know gas prices aren’t what they used to be, or should be. I know they aren’t bringing in a lot of money to be able to drive back and forth. Being a mom, I cannot imagine not having my newborn with me every moment. I know this is stressful for Veronica and I am hoping to relieve some of that stress, so she can visit every day, or maybe stay longer.
