Earthquake: Exchangers help Mexico
Hello, everybody,
Mexico is in a state of crisis following the three earthquakes that hit on the 7th, 19th, and 23rd of September 2017. In total, the death toll in the month of September has reached over 400 people, and many hundreds hurt and hospitalized. This number is likely to increase in the following weeks.
Around 50 buildings have collapsed in Mexico City alone, and one of those buildings was a primary school, where 20 children sadly passed away in the tremor.
We are a group of exchange students between the ages of 15-18 years, currently in Mexico, and ever since we arrived, this country has greeted us with nothing more than love and acceptance. We could not have wished for a better place to be and enjoy our exchange year.
However, seeing this beautiful and amazing country in crisis really touched our hearts, and we wish to do something about it. So we decided to ask our local rotary club for help.
That is when we decided to make a campaign here on GoFundMe as a relief fund for the people of Mexico City, Morelos, Puebla, Oaxaca, Guerrero, and Chiapas. Our relationship to this country has only improved since this event. In the start, the affected people needed things like clothes, medicine, toilet paper, towels, amongst other things, however as time goes on they will need help for building supplies for rebuilding homes and hospitals, tools, medicine and more.
These brave and amazing people are standing together in a situation of crisis, and we can help by using the money for all of these supplies and sending them to the affected areas. Your donations mean a lot, and every little bit counts. So please, help us help them!
Thank you!
Who are we?
From left to right, Hugo Williot from Belgium, Emma Laurent from France, Dakota Cramer from the USA, Alexia Carvalho from Brazil, Nikolai Allermann from Denmark, Nathan Guilloteau from France, and Antonie Sargo from France are the founders of this campaign.
We have all invested a lot of our time into making this campaign as successful as possible, and are determined to help all of the people that are in need of it.
We are a group of exchange students from all around the world currently in Mexico, with the organization Rotary. This campaign is based in Morelia, Michoacán, but we have encouraged every single exchange student in the country to do the same for us. In our district 4140, which includes Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, Michoacán, Guanajuato, Querétaro, parts of Hidalgo, and parts of Jalisco, we are 107 exchange students from 23 different countries. We are all going to contact our rotary clubs in our countries, our schools, families, facebook friends, and with just the related of the exchange students in 4140, we expect to reach at least 5300 people. If everybody donates 5 dollars, we are up to 26.500 dollars with just those people!
We will also contact the rest of the 100s of exchange students in Mexico, and ask them to spread the word, and we would be ever thankful if you did the same.
Where will the money go?
When the time is in, we will withdraw the money to buy the supplies that are currently in demand at the moment of withdrawal. It will be things like medicine, supplies, building materials, water, tools, and general help, to help rebuild houses, lives, and relationships. We will log everything we buy and use the money for, to prove that we use the money for its intended purpose, and provide pictures and videos of all the shipments we make. Rotary will help us with the organization of the charity events and also help with keeping track of it all. We will continuously post updates on this page as we progress through the relief of the affected areas. When we withdraw the money, we will buy all of the needed supplies, and save the leftover money (if any), and then send it using a privately owned truck (see the picture below) to lower costs of shipping.

In november, we will be going to Mexico City with rotary, to see the situation and if they need anything else. We have thoroughly enjoyed making this campaign, and will definitely keep pushing to help as many people as possible.
Many thanks for your generous donation!
