Hi, my name is Amanda (but my friends call me Laya!). I'm an artist in many different mediums (believe me it's a lot, if it's creative I can get my hands on it and do something with it), but my main focuses are drawing and yarn work (crocheting/knitting).
I've been in chronic pain for a little over a decade now, and I finally found a doctor (a neurosurgeon) that will do spinal fusion for me, which will give me the ability to use my legs and more around more and not be in pain. After so long, I don't even know what that would look like, but I'm excited. It is currently unbearable to sit and do anything or even walk for longer than a few minutes without my back giving out.
Conditions being treated:
-Lumbar Stenosis
-Neural Foraminal Narrowing
-Central Canal Narrowing
-Ruptured/Herniated Disc
I need this surgery because if I leave these conditions untreated, the risk of paralysis is super high, and I want to be able to walk, I do not want to be confined to a wheelchair.
They are prescribing me this Orthofix spine stimulator system for after the surgery (don't even get me started on how much the surgery is going to cost, hint: it's got 6 zeroes), and I talked to the woman today about it and she said that out-of-pocket if insurance won't cover it is $3200 (low end) and $5000 (high end).
So I am raising as much money as I can by the first week of surgery (which is July 9th), so that I can get this spine brace and cut my recovery time (for FULL fusion, i.e. the "cement" date of my spine) from 18 months to 9 months (which is a hell of a thing, technology is so cool).
I'm disabled, and so is my husband, we don't have anything we can put towards this, and no savings due to a long series of unfortunate circumstances (his being transplant failure and dialysis, mine being spine failure and multiple cancers).
Anything you guys can give is highly appreciated, and any extra will go to medical devices needed for recovery (like raised toilet seats, walking assistance, grabbing devices, devices to help put clothing on, things like that, those are expensive as well).
Bless you, and please have a wonderful day!
Amanda~
