FUND AN AIR-CONDITIONER FOR KITAB GHAR LAHORE

Hello!

We are fundraising for an air-conditioner for Kitab Ghar Lahore, a public library in Rehmanpura, Lahore -- a working-class community.

Currently, Lahore faces an insane heat wave with temperatures as high as 46 degrees Celsius/ 114 degrees Fahrenheit. This is expected to go on for the entire summer and worsen over the years as Pakistan stands on the front lines of the global climate crisis. The current temperature conditions have made Kitab Ghar uninhabitable for staffers who work from 11 am- 8 pm, often during high noon, and local students who use the space every day for studying and exam preparation. For many, Kitab Ghar is their only safe haven. We only have fans in the space, and would love to buy an air-conditioning unit and pay the high electricity bills we will likely incur.

Our team at Kitab Ghar has already invested thousands of dollars in renting the space, buying furniture, paying utilities and hosting books and programming for locals. Most of the space is run through donations from patrons or from the team's own pockets. We are now raising money to help pay for an air conditioner and electricity bills at Kitab Ghar.

Please help support Lahore's first public, community library during this difficult time. An air-conditioner will allow us to keep the space open for longer hours and make it inhabitable.
