Help to Fund Barwick Maypole Festival 2025

Barwick-in-Elmet is home the UK's tallest traditional maypole. Standing at nearly 90 feet in the centre of the village, it represents a tradition going back many centuries.

Lowered every three years for repairs and repainting, its raised again on Spring Bank Holiday Monday as part of the village's unique and highly popular Maypole Festival.

Featuring the crowning of our Maypole Queen, traditional maypole dancing, a procession through the village, a great Yorkshire brass band, a fun fair, street market and more!

It is, though, a very expensive event to hold, with insurance and crane-hire costs pushing our three-yearly budget to a staggering £14,000.

The twice-delayed (due to the pandemic) Festvial in 2022 coincided with the Queen's Platinum Jubilee and was a roaring success enjoyed by well over 4,000 people.

So, with less than two years to the next Festival, we're desperately hoping the good people of Barwick-in-Elmet - and those further afield who admire our great English tradition - might be able to help with our fundraiser.

Every penny goes to the Maypole Trust, which is organised entirely by unpaid volunteers, to maintain our village tradition and hold the triennial Festival.

So, with less than 2 years to the next Festival, we're desperately hoping to raise the funds we need to ensure the continuation of this centuries' old tradition, and provide yet another fantastic day out for our whole community.
