New Team Base for Galloway Mountain Rescue

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team - New Team Base

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team is a voluntary organisation providing search and rescue assistance to the public in south-west Scotland, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Our current Team Base is situated in Newton Stewart and was opened in 1944 as the town's Fire Station. It then became the Ambulance Station and is now Galloway MRT base.

The building is however no longer fit for our purpose. We require more room for vehicles, equipment storage, a drying room, training room and control centre.

Our vision is to relocate to purpose built building to ensure that we continue to give a modern and well supported voluntary search and rescue service to the public in Galloway, south-west Scotland.

The project will require significant financial investment and, as part of our fund-raising, a group of team members will be undertaking the Galloway Ring of Fire Challenge in May 2024. This involves walking across 30 summits in the central Galloway Hills - a total distance of 44 miles (71 kms) and height gain of 14100 feet (4300 metres).

Our aim is to raise £10000 and any support is very much appreciated.
