Fund Bus Transport for Autism Center in Ethiopia

Tax deductible
My name is Abigail Hailu. I am the eldest sibling in a family with a wonderful teenager with autism and the founder of The Black Autism Network in the United States, California. Our organization works on providing resources for parents with children, teens, and adults with autism internationally. Autism is a developmental disability that causes problems with social skills and communication. It affects essential human behaviors such as social interaction, the ability to communicate ideas and feelings, imagination, and establishing relationships with others. Education and training, for both children and their parents and teachers, is currently the primary form of treatment for autism spectrum disorders.

We are supporting the Nehemiah Autism Center in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Most children with autism in Ethiopia are deprived of education and rehabilitation because of society’s lack of awareness. The majority of the public is still unaware of how autism affects people and how to work with autistic children effectively. As a result, children with autism and related disorders have been denied most of the opportunities to obtain academic, social, and communication skills training and involvement in the overall socio-economic activities of the community.

Nehemiah Center’s mission is to provide care, instruction, and support for children with autism and related disabilities, promoting cognitive, emotional, and relational growth through individualized programs, providing counseling and support to parents, and finally raising public awareness of the nature and prevalence of Autistic Spectrum Disorders. Their goal is to ensure that children with autism and related disabilities are provided with the education and skills they need to become confident adults who are good members of their local communities and can play their part in society. To help The Nehemiah Autism Center’s initiative, we are fundraising to provide their students with bus transportation so that their students and families can better access resources at the center. Any donation will help make an impact and is greatly appreciated. If you aren't able to contribute at this time, a share with your friends and family would mean the world to us as well.
