Fund computers for NGOs

Last weekend, I received yet another invitation to participate in the extremely strenuous Mountain Bike Marathon event called Drasal , which is to be held on July 4, in the Czech Republic, not too far away from my hometown. I was glad to see the invite: it means that life after COVID-19 is slowly getting back to normal and was happy to leave it like that. After all, I have already done it once: six years ago. And I’ve been proud of the fact I was able to bike, sweat, spit, and swear (silently) for 117 km uphill with an overall 3400 m of elevation gain which took me over eight hours. But why would I want to do it again? Well, do I have any other place than my home office to go to? You’ve guessed it: I signed up.
The moment I submitted the application it had dawned on me how lucky I am to be doing something so luxurious as travelling to another country to take part in a “hobby”. In the aftermath of the pandemic when many families worry about how to make ends meet, I “worry” about how many calories I need to eat to be able to complete the event. And even during the pandemic, my family was one of the lucky ones: both my wife and I had been able to carry on working from home, and our daughters were able to continue their education online, thanks to having access to a computer. But not everyone has. And that’s why I’ve decided to use this event as a fundraiser to help those in need.
After having talked to a few people from NGOs about the impact of COVID-19 on their work, I became aware of the fact that the NGOs had to adapt to make many things online. However, most of them have only “hand-me-down” old computers at their disposal, which could barely run Zoom or other video conference tools – including the Association of Public Benefit Organizations in the Czech Republic. More in English . With your help, we can change that and help to make the hard work they do a bit easier by supporting them with new computers. The Lenovo Czech Republic team have promised to offer to the NGOs the computers (obviously with Intel Inside) with special non-profit pricing – thanks for the help!
And here is my additional challenge: the last time I rode (suffered) exactly for 8 hours and 36 minutes…. I will do my best to finish under 8 hours – please double your contribution in this case!
Thank you very much!

P.S. I started with modest goal of few computers. If I manage to raise more money for more computers, the association will provide those computers their members and/or education project. I did not dare to target PCs for the whole class of kids, but it would have been very nice if that happens.
The association is also member of the INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE ON FUNDRAISING ORGANIZATIONS ICFO
