DaRon’s First Year at Fordham University

Hi, my name is Dominique Dennis and I am the lucky mother of DaRon Elam. DaRon is an exemplary young man who beat the odds and is gearing up for his first year of college. Despite being born to a teenage mother and being raised in a single parent household, DaRon stayed focused on his academics and athletics. Being raised in SouthCentral LA it’s easy to get caught up doing the wrong stuff but he ignored all of that and kept his eye on the prize.

DaRon attended the prestigious Loyola High School of Los Angeles and graduated with a 3.9gpa. He was the president of the Car Club and African American Association, in addition to being a Captain of the Track team and a starting Safety on the Football team. DaRon grew up wanting to play football and run track at the collegiate level, but not everything went his way and unfortunately football didn’t happen.

As his mother I wasn’t prepared to have to pay for college because I thought his grades and athletic capabilities would cover it. Although he received a number of scholarships through Fordham University and their Men’s Track team and is still applying for countless other scholarships. We are still short $20,000 for the year. That does not include transporting him and his belongings across the country (California to New York).

I am a very proud person and do not believe in asking for help. But for my son, I will do anything. If you can find it in your hearts to donate even a $1 towards this great cause it would literally mean the world to me and it would change DaRon’s world.

DaRon was not only accepted into Fordham University, recruited for their Men’s Track team but was also accepted into their Gabelli School of Business (one of the top programs in the country).

With that being said, know that your contribution will not go to waste. But will be used towards bettering the future of a young man who is looking to be the first college graduate in his family.
