Fund for a Family

Infertility is a scary word, and can mean a lot of things. Navigating it has one of the hardest challenges of my life. You feel broken, disoriented, and confused. Like, is this really my story? Hello, my name is Kathleen Baucom-Acker, and I am here because my family could use your support.

But first our story.

I met my husband when I was 21, and I have been with him for over 15 years. We have changed dramatically in the many years of being together, and we both are proud of the evolution of our connection to ourselves and our connection with each other. In that journey, I found out that I wanted to be a mom. It was never something I thought about young or even in my 20s, but it appeared in my 30s, and slowly the desire started to build. Around 35, it burst out of me in a raw, real, primal way. I MUST FEEL WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO CREATE LIFE. It took some serious navigation and communication to get there as a couple, but I am so grateful that we finally did. Now we had the strong foundation to bring a life in this world.

And then...nothing.

After seeing a doctor and having more tests on my body than I've ever had, the determination was made that IVF (InVitroFertilization) is the best path forward for us. Not believing this advice, we decided to take the tests to another doctor to get a second opinion- who told us the same thing. With much consideration and conversation as a couple, we decided that we were going to give IVF a try. And if it doesn't work, it doesn’t work. But at least we can say that we tried this path.

Unfortunately, we came to find out quickly that IVF is not covered under our insurance in any way. And with some research I came to find out that this is a pretty common story. Most IVF is not covered, and yet, more and more families are needing it. The treatment all told will be between $25,000-$35,000. The numbers vary from family to family, depending on medication that they need and other "extras."

This is where we could use your help. If this was covered even slightly by insurance, we wouldn't be reaching out- but it's not. So if you have some money to spare during this holiday season, please consider donating it to this fund. All money will be going to my body, and our family.

Please note- you most likely won’t be hearing updates as this treatment takes quite a long time to do and so much emotional/physical/mental fortitude.

Please also note- again, we hope this process will work, but we cannot predict that. So any funds that we raise will 100% go towards this process, or potentially other fertility options or adoption ❤️
