Fund for Emergency Home Repairs

DISCLAIMER: The picture isn't of my actual bathroom; it's just something I found on Google Image Search. I don't have a picture of the actual leaking faucet right now... but does it really matter? You get the point, right?

Well it happened again...

First of all, if you don't know me: my name is David Flor and I am a software architect and game designer with an unbelievable ability to experience all sorts of bad luck. If you follow me on social media you know some of the things I've experienced, but to put things simply: my purpose in life seems to serve as a warning to others.

I've resisted with every ounce of my being doing a fundraiser, but as much as I've tried to hold out I am in an emergency situation right now. And, although I have many other financial issues I'm dealing with, this fundraiser is designed to focus on one issue and one alone: home repairs. If it goes above and beyond, it'll help immensely all my other issues... but let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Here's the story: I've lived in the same house for 25 years. As can be expected, over times things break... but now it seems like everything has broken at the same time.

1) The hot water valve in the master bathroom has broken in that it won't close and is actually leaking a large amount of water through the valve itself. We've had to turn off water to the house in order to stop it, which as you can imagine is a bit of a nuisance. Because (1) the valve is 20+ years old and not readily replaceable, (2) the valve is on a wall that is considered an "exterior" wall that has our neighbor on the other side, and (3) replacing the whole assembly will involve removing and replacing tile and drywall... the initial estimates have come in at $650-700. I'm still working on improving that, but that's what we're going with.

2) The dryer motor on our combination washer/dryer has burned out. Since it's one whole unit (not the usual separate washer and dryer), it will likely need to be serviced or replaced as a whole. And it's a unit that is at least 10-15 years old, so replacement is likely. I don't have a price for this yet.

3) Our garbage disposal is busted, and replacement is around $100. Honestly, that's the least of our worries, but I figured I'd mention it.

All of this happened within one week, so it's sudden and it's a lot.

Anyway, any and all assistance is greatly appreciated!
