FUND FOR FRANK'S CATS

Donation protected
University of New Orleans philosophy professor Frank Schalow died suddenly on May 25 at the age of sixty-eight. For many years, Frank was my next-door office neighbor in the Liberal Arts building; he was also lived near me in the Carrollton area. With maybe the exception of our campus custodians who had to deal with his office, which was even messier than mine, everyone loved Frank. He was affable, generous, and brilliant. I encourage you to read the lovely tribute to Professor Schalow that appeared in our campus news.

I am writing to ask that you support Frank's dear friend Brittany Tucker's care of the two dozen cats that Frank left behind. Although he had no living relatives, this colony and dear friends like Brittany were his family.

Frank had many of his cats fixed and medically treated at Maple Small Animal Hospital. He did his damnedest to care for them. As Frank had not yet prepared a will, Brittany has paid for the colony's care since his death: food, gas, medical treatment, flea prevention, sterilization (of those who aren't fixed), cleaning. Two colony cats who are tame are being fostered/adopted.

A cat that Frank had put a collar on and considered a pet is being fostered by Brittany in her home; her son has named him Windigoon. Good Samaritan Poppy Mackenzie covered veterinary treatment (shots, deworming, flea treatment, bloodwork, microchipping) at Prytania Small Animal Hospital for a second people-loving, 9YO colony cat who has since been adopted and named Cappuccino. As you can imagine, Brittany's expenses have really accrued, which is why I am creating this fundraiser.

Here is a breakdown of expenses that Brittany has had since May as well as anticipated expenses through the end of the year and Poppy's one-time expense:

Gas/Mileage: $1,800
Cat Food: $1,080
Cat Trap: $50
Pine Sol: $90
Flea Prevention: $1,280
Cappuccino Vet (for Poppy): $200
Reduced Veterinary Expenses: $500
TOTAL: $5,000

In memory of Frank, I ask that you help Brittany so that she can continue to care for his beloved cats. Giving just $5 or $10 will help support these kitties. If you can't give money, a share on social media will help as well. Thank you.

Best,
