Fund for South Sudan's Sebit Bruno

Donation protected
Sebit Bruno is arguably the most promising footballer in South Sudan. At just 22 years old, he has already established himself as the leading striker in the South Sudan national team and is on the cusp of an historic transfer to a club in Europe.

On Sunday January 15th, Bruno collapsed at his home in Nairobi after complaining of a headache for several hours. As his family lacked the funds needed to receive immediate medical attention, they were forced to wait almost 24 hours before he was seen by a doctor. Eventually the diagnosis found that he suffered from a stroke, which would not only put his dreams of becoming a football star in Europe at serious risk but also put him into a critical life-threatening condition.

As at January 18th he is in a serious but stable condition, where he has been responsive and able to move his hands but still unable to communicate. Of greatest concern is the inability of his family to pay for his medical bills, which may mean that his does not receive the support that is needed to ensure his recovery. At this stage, both the Government of South Sudan and the South Sudan Football Association have been unwilling or unable to provide any assistance, and therefore we have formed a group led by his fellow South Sudan national team players, as well as the football community of South Sudan to raise the funds that will be required to treat Bruno’s condition.

The football career of Sebit Bruno began in Kenya’s infamous Kakuma Refugee Camp, where he was raised after fleeing civil war in his native South Sudan. The tall, imposing striker made a name for himself as the top footballer within the South Sudanese community in Kenya and soon found his way to Juba-based club Kator FC, one of the top clubs in South Sudan. From there he earned a call-up to the South Sudan national team in 2015, and has already made an incredible achievement by becoming the all-time leading scorer in the short history of the national team. His impressive form at national team level quickly caught the attention of several clubs in Europe and he was set to travel to Albania for trials at a top club in the country in February 2017. Tragically he is instead set for a fight to recover and make it back onto the pitch to represent his country.

The national football team in South Sudan in a unique symbol of unity and pride in a country that has been devastated by immense violence and poverty. Bruno is the heart of the team and a shining light for his country. We need your help to make sure that he can recover from his condition and hopefully get back to playing football at the highest level.

Donations will be collected by the South Sudan Footballers' Union, a body formed by the national team players themselves. Specifically, this campaign will be managed by national team player Chol Mangar, professional athlete Mangar 'Bossman MG' Chuot and AMS Clothing (a sponsor of the national team) founder Luke Westcott, with assistance from the entire football community of South Sudan. All funds received will be transferred via Amal Express to Danson Machek John, the local organiser of Bruno's campaign and also a close cousin of Bruno. Funds will then be given directly to Bruno's mother to cover medical expenses. To confirm, the contact number of Mr. Danson is +254799400560.

The total cost of his ongoing medical treatment is likely to exceed $5,000, a sum that his family are simply unable to be close to covering.
