For Xiangzhi Meng family, organized by Yan Xiang

Our dear friend and colleague Xiangzhi Meng passed away on 3/13/2022. She is survived by her husband of 30 years Bo Yan and a teenage son Ryan Yan. Xiangzhi was a wonderful mother,  wife, and friend, who touched the lives of many people around her. She was a superb scientist who had published nearly 50 research papers, including 8 papers on Covid-19 in the last two years. Some of her studies were mentioned by news outlets (zika , pox , and MDS ). 

 

Xiangzhi was a native of Shandong, China. She received her Bachelor's degree in Medicine from Jining School of Medicine and her Ph.D. degree in Virology from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention. She came to the United States in 2004 to pursue her postdoctoral training and had continuously worked at UT Health San Antonio ever since, rising to the rank of Assistant Professor.  

Over the past 3 years, Xiangzhi had been fighting a heroic battle with metastatic lung cancer. The courage and strength she summoned to endure treatments while maintaining her professional responsibilities and duties as a wife and mother were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her legacy will live long in our hearts and minds.

 

Xiangzhi's passing away at the prime of her life left her family and friends with deep sorrow. This fundraiser would support her family to go through this tough time. Xiangzhi's husband, Mr. Bo Yan will manage all the fund, and he plans to use the fund for funeral expenses and the kid’s education.

我们亲爱的朋友和同事孟祥芝 于 2022 年 3 月 13 日去世。她身后留下与她结婚 30 年的丈夫颜博和十四岁的儿子Ryan。祥芝是一位了不起的母亲、妻子和朋友，触动了她周围许多人的生活。她是一位出色的科学家，发表了近 50 篇研究论文，包括在过去两年里 8 篇关于 新冠病毒的论文。她的一些研究也得到了一些新闻媒体的报道(zika病毒  , 痘病毒  , and MDS )。
 
祥芝是山东德州人，她于1992年在山东济宁医学院获得医学学士学位，于2003年在中国疾病预防控制中心获得病毒学博士学位。她于2004年四月来到UT Health San Antonio从事病毒和免疫博士后研究，后晋升为助理教授。祥芝无论在学生时代还是工作阶段，一直表现得非常优秀，性格开朗、积极向上、满满的正能量。

过去3年来，祥芝一直在与肺癌进行一场英勇的战斗。她面对病魔顽强勇敢，在治病的同时，还积极地工作和生活，她乐观豁达的精神也鼓舞了所有认识她的人。她的音容笑貌永存我们心中，祝她一路走好，逝者安息！有意者可以向祥芝家人捐款，取代鲜花，用于处理后事和孩子的教育。
