Hi! My name's Hannah Winter, and I'm pursuing an English and Creative Writing degree at Muhlenberg College. As a preteen, writing was the first thing that ever came naturally to me; Now as a young adult, creative writing helps me process and celebrate being alive. In this past year, in addition to taking several incredible creative writing courses, I won first place in the poetry category of Muhlenberg's Creative Writing Awards, I directed a play I wrote in an on campus festival, and I recorded and released an original song. All of these opportunities have bolstered my growth as a writer and were made possible because of my own hard work and the generosity of my campus community. I wouldn't be able to achieve these things without my education and the support of my mentors.

I’m lucky enough to have been accepted into a course called Writing About Place, which focuses on Creative Writing and Sustainability. The course also requires a trip to Italy, where I would explore those topics as it pertains to nature, architecture and Italian artistic history. This class would allow me to hone my craft in a new environment, explore my history as a European Jew, connect with nature and fulfill my Integrative Learning General Academic Requirement. With my current artistic and academic scholarships, my tuition amounts to $38,500, an arduous cost for my family. I make less than 10 dollars an hour researching for my mentor and academic advisor, so it is almost impossible to cover this cost on my own. My family has experienced financial hardship since the start of the Covid-19 Pandemic, and sending me to Muhlenberg is already a strenuous cost. While this trip is not a necessity, I would truly appreciate and take full advantage of this opportunity. This course isn't offered again until after I've graduated from Muhlenberg, so this would be my only chance. I know the world is really crazy right now, and my problem is not even close to the most important; If you would like to donate, it would be very much appreciated. But if not, please share with your friends :) Community is important to me, and even being surrounded by supportive individuals sharing the journey I've been experiencing is really encouraging.
