Help fund Liam's ongoing therapy and equipment

Liam was diagnosed with Burkitts leukaemia, a rare fast growing type of leukaemia, in December 2016 just weeks after his fifth birthday.

During Liam’s treatment for leukaemia he contracted a virus in his spinal fluid. The virus was enterovius, which normally presents very similarly to a cold, but as Liam had no immune system as a result of his treatment, the enterovirus caused viral encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain, a rare but serious condition.

Liam has remained in remission since February 2017 but has been left with a significant brain injury as a result of the encephalitis which caused him to lose part of his cerebellum amongst other areas of damage.

He is now dependant on others for all his care needs, is tube fed, non-verbal and struggles with intentional movement.

To help Liam regain the skills he had prior to his brain injury he requires ongoing therapy, including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, hydrotherapy and speech and language therapy. Very little of this is provided by the NHS, which is why we fundraise to be able to give Liam access to the amount of therapy he requires.

In the past Liam has also accessed equine therapy, music therapy and hyperbaric oxygen therapy. All things that we would love for him to be able to access again as they are so beneficial.

There are also items of equipment that Liam needs at home to help with these therapies and day to day life that are not provided and come with a price tag, any money we raise may also be used to help with these costs.

These therapies are not always local either, so we would like to use some of the money raised to help towards the additional expenses occurred during these, which could include petrol, rail fares etc.

Liam is showing good progress from the therapies that he currently has and with your help and support we hope that he can continue to access these and have the best quality of life.
