Fund Quality Literature for Our Children

Help me fund PROFESSIONAL illustrations of HIGH QUALITY children’s literature for our children!!

As I have four children of my own, I’ve noticed a HUGE lack of quality children’s literature that reflects our lifestyle as Torah keeping believers in Yeshua. Several years ago, a story was laid on my heart. Three years ago, I finally wrote it. And now, it needs illustrations— but not the amateur digital art I would completely botch. It needs quality, traditional media. Our children deserve good literature with award-level illustrations.

About the story: When my oldest (now 9) was 3-4 years old, she would gleefully tell me ‘Shabbat shalom, Mama!’ Every day. And I had to teach her that Shabbat is only on the seventh day, but that she could help me prepare all throughout the week for Shabbat. When my son was 3-4 years old, he did the same. And when my third born did the same, with the sweetest pronunciation, I knew I had to write the story of our family-centered, simple living, homesteading Shabbat prep week and welcoming of Shabbat. The story Shabbat Shalom, Mama! takes you through each day as we anticipate and prepare for Shabbat and culminates in a festive Erev Shabbat party to welcome the Shabbat. It’s a beautiful story that you and your children will enjoy and want to read again and again! (P.S. It’s NOT twaddle!)

The first meeting with the illustrator, in which we mapped out the illustrations for each page, has happened (pictured). We’re using inspiration from the Little House books, Beatrix Potter, and Sydney Taylor’s All of a Kind Family to create the illustrations for Shabbat Shalom, Mama! I’ve received the quote, and we’re ready to get started!!! We are able to work incrementally, so as I receive the funds, we can begin each phase. I will update you as each phase is completed!

About Me: My name is Raquel Hiller. Some of you may know me from the Women Living Torah YouTube channel and website, or you may have read my articles in the Torah Sisters magazine. I’m passionate about spreading enthusiasm and practical tips for Biblical living, and I love connecting with other women and mamas of the faith! Because I don’t run my Women Living Torah like a business, I usually only earn enough to pay for my website domain and any necessary equipment (such as a ring light or tripod). Not nearly enough to fund these illustrations in a timely manner. While I will pledge ALL proceeds from the channel until these illustrations are paid, I NEED YOUR HELP to get it done!!

About the Illustrator: J. McFarland is a professional illustrator of like faith to us, whom I just so happened to discover was an illustrator after a Shabbat service one evening— literally just after I had prayed for YHVH to somehow make the illustrations happen. Mr. McFarland is an answer to prayer!! He has done illustrations for the Epoch Times, Angel Studios (helping direct the art of the Tuttle Twins comic books), and many other people and companies with conservative values. In fact, he left the mainstream illustration world in order to be part of bringing back our culture to traditional and conservative values (and the Most High!!). This art project is exactly where his heart and passion are— in bringing to our community and families quality illustrations that reflect our lifestyle and honor YHVH.
