Fundraiser for Buzz & Mary Meredith

On the evening of April 6th, Buzz Meredith suffered a stroke while at home.  Since that night, Buzz has undergone brain surgery to remove a blood clot and has had four months of physical therapy at a skilled nursing facility. His progress has been slow, but with a couple more months of vital stem therapy to improve his ability to swallow and therefore eat, plus more physical therapy, Mary will be able to bring Buzz home soon. This may be the best outcome that one could hope for after as severe a stroke as Buzz experienced.

While Buzz’s recovery is overall on the up and up, the financial repercussions have been staggering. Buzz's health insurance provider made a final determination that they would no longer cover claims for Buzz to remain at the skilled nursing facility. This means that Buzz's continuing care will be "private pay," which is a nice way of saying that Mary will have to find a way to pay for the $7,000 per month room, plus supplies and therapy. Mary also is paying directly for Buzz's health insurance since he is no longer employed. There is also the investment Mary will have to make to their home (bathroom, bedroom) so that it is safe for Buzz. Getting Buzz approved for disability has been another slow and arduous process and even when that is approved three months from now, it will be two years before he is eligible for Medicaid.


The reason we are creating this Go Fund Me campaign is to raise some money to help Mary over the next couple of months. Money raised here will go towards Buzz's long term care, continuing physical therapy, the cost of his monthly insurance and the modifications needed to prepare the Meredith's home for his return.
