Help to pay for Shelby's dental surgery

Hi, my name is Karen.

Shelby is my new fur-ever feline friend who is in desperate need of dental surgery to allow him to live a pain free life.

Shelby is 14 years old. I recently took Shelby in for an elderly man who was no longer able to take care of him. The man was moved into a care home where he was not allowed to bring Shelby. Shelby was going to be left behind to fend for himself on a property where the buildings will eventually be demolished. Shelby's home was in the back kitchen of a farm house with no heat.

When I brought Shelby home approximately a month and a half ago, he was not in good health. He would not have survived the winter. He was very thin, had a bad case of upper respiratory illness and was also diagnosed with a thyroid condition that requires medication twice daily for the rest of his life. He also had fleas, worms and ear mites, all of these issues have been resolved.

I had also been informed that Shelby's teeth and gums are in very bad shape. He is in need of dental work that on my fixed income I simply cannot afford. I do not have the money required to have Shelby's teeth removed.

The Veterinarian has stated that his teeth likely broke off leaving the roots still in his gums. They need to be removed in order for his mouth to heal, to relieve the pain.

All we are able to do for Shelby at this time is give him pain medication to keep him comfortable.

Shelby has had a hard life. He is also deaf. Shelby has never had the opportunity to feel safe and just be a cat. He has always had to be on guard to protect himself. He also had a female companion whom he was separated from. I believe his female friend was his ears and that was how he survived. He's been through a lot. Once Shelby is healthier he will be introduced to two new furry friends that are here with me. Hopefully sooner rather than later, I believe he is a little depressed without his friend.

I am desperately in need of funding to help out with Shelby's dental. I wouldn't be asking otherwise.

I would like to provide him with the fullest life possible.

At the end of the day I would like Shelby to be comfortable and know he is loved. He deserves that and so much more.

Shelby has a fur-ever home here with me, we just need a little help.
