Meet Sugar...This beautiful eight-year-old German Shephard mix was found tied to a railing outside of A Forever Home Animal Rescue in Eustis, Florida on May 24th. She's been a joy since she arrived at the rescue. She loves everyone and gets along with the other dogs. She is the sweetest girl; hence we named her Sugar.
Upon arrival she was examined and immediately we noticed a large hard mass (the size of two hands side-by-side) on her right hind leg. She tended to favor the leg thus we knew it was bothering her.
We got her to Mount Dora Veterinary Hospital on May 28th and she was examined by Dr. Tony. In addition to the large mass, which he expressed concern over, he also found three additional small masses. Her examination also revealed that she has one fractured tooth, the exterior of her ears are infected, and she has not been spayed. Dr. Tony took a biopsy of the mass to determine the course of treatment for Sugar. It will take seven to 10 days to get the results. In the meantime, an estimate for the surgical procedure to remove the four masses, remove the fractured tooth, and spay her was provided.
The estimate for Sugar's procedure is between $3,000 and $3,800. Our fear is the cost will be at the higher end as hard masses tend to be more complicated and harmful to a dog's health.
