Film Synopsis:

Tender Was The Waltz aims to be a deeply thoughtful and brilliant short film about a young woman, Ada, her struggles with mental health, and the way it changes her perception of the relationship that means the most to her; the true love she shares with her husband Jay.

Through the course of the film, Ada tells their love story from the confines of a mental institution of which she has been stuck in for an unnumbered amount of years. Consistently questioned by her psychiatrist, whose questions leave her reeling, Ada is forced to confront unimaginable ideas about their life.

Told with stunning visuals and a gripping never-before-seen narrative, Tender Was The Waltz explores the passion of finite love and the beauty of the stories we tell to ourselves.

Our Story:

Every great story begins with a chance meeting, and ours was no different. We were just a group of passionate students who found each other on the campus of Harding University. Each of us came to this place with a love for storytelling, drawn to the idea of creating something bigger than ourselves.

It all started when Emma Claire Smith, one of the most imaginative and visionary among us, shared an idea during a late-night brainstorming session with her AD and creative partner, Alita O'Leary. Her concept for Tender Was the Waltz—a poignant tale about fleeting connections and the beauty of impermanence—immediately captured their hearts. It felt like a story that needed to be told, one that could resonate with anyone who has ever cherished a moment, knowing it would slip away.

They spent several years fleshing the story out and then began looking for people to make it a reality. We all had a role to play, united by the same goal: to bring this idea to life.

We’ve spent countless hours refining Emma Claire’s vision, pouring our hearts into every detail. This isn’t just a film to us; it’s a reflection of the friendships and creative bonds we’ve formed. It’s a testament to what can happen when a group of dreamers comes together with a shared purpose.
