Hi everyone, my name is Teresa, and I am reaching out to you with a humble request. I am a 63 yr old hospice nursing assistant living in Washington State, but I was born and raised in the Carolinas. I’m a very long way from home, and I was informed on May 16, 2024 that my 83 yr old father now has colon cancer. He’s also in remission from stage IV prostate cancer. Currently, he lives alone in North Carolina and is expected to undergo surgery to remove part of his colon on July 2, 2024. My sister lives in South Carolina, but also has medical issues and would not be able to care for him on a daily basis. I desperately want to go to him where I can give him the care he needs. I don't want my Dad to possibly end up in a nursing facility. Unfortunately, my family in Washington cannot afford my time away and fund my trip home. My husband, Kenny, is on disability. He suffers from severe degenerative disc disease in his back, and from COPD and emphysema. He’s also a two-time survivor from cancer, Non Hodgkin's lymphoma and esophageal cancer.

It would be such a major blessing to raise $10,000 to help cover the expenses for my trip and for while I'm out on FMLA. The reason we are asking for so much is that Kenny is no longer able to fly due to his breathing issues/shortness of breath at high altitude. He’s on oxygen twenty-four hours a day as well. We’d have to drive home. This would take at least four days one way. We’d need to stop frequently due to his back pain. Plus, I’m my husband’s caregiver and really can’t leave him behind at home alone.

Let me share a bit more about why this means so much to me: I love my Dad more than anything. He is my only living parent. I lost my Mother from cancer when I was 22 years old. She was living in Germany with my step-father, while I was married and living in the U.S. I wasn't able to be there for her, so I would give anything to be able to be there for my Dad in his time of need.
