Hello, my name is Essence Turner, and I am raising funds for my home-based business, Botanical Essence Natural Skincare.

In 2015, soon after giving birth to my oldest daughter, I began to suffer from postpartum acne and other skin ailments. As a result, I began to lose my confidence while already not feeling like myself. I wasted time and money trying top-name brand products that promised satisfying results, leaving me with broken promises and worsened skin conditions. I felt defeated and close to genuinely giving up. That was until I decided to research DIY remedies. While being a new mom and an undergrad student, I researched late into the evenings, seeking ways to alleviate my skin condition. I began by creating a facial bar soap just as a trial run. I had no idea if it would work, but I figured I would try it. After about a few weeks of using the soap, I was thrilled to actually see results! Soon I realized I was not the only one suffering and thus began my journey as a business owner.

Once I graduated, I put more effort into researching natural remedies and acquiring materials and ingredients for my first product. Finally, after spending months tweaking and perfecting a single item, I felt ready to market to the public. So, on May 20, 2020, during this crazy pandemic, Botanical Essence Natural Skincare website was launched. In the first year, things were consistent. I gained a following as well as return customers. I felt like everything was going well. I created a product that helped others! With the creative itch, I began making new products that quickly became popular. I felt like this was it! I was becoming a successful business owner overnight. At least that's what I thought, but I was soon humbled.

In 2021, business slowly died down. While I was still receiving orders, it was enough, and the cost to run my business quickly surpassed the revenue I was bringing in. On top of that, I was super pregnant, soon to welcome another baby girl. So I took a hiatus to focus on welcoming my newborn and made no sales for a year. However, no sales = no money to clear debt acquired from starting my business.

While on my break, I continued to research, study, and prepare for my relaunch with what little money I had to put towards my business and relaunched in July 2022. This time, with a lot less oomph than before. While still making quality products, I cannot market and promote the way I wish I could due to low funds, much going towards clearing debt. As of now, I strictly promote by creating content and posting on my business platforms. However, in the age of "Going Viral," it seems like I'm playing a losing game. This brings me to my why behind creating a GoFundMe.

Botanical Essence Natural Skincare was created and is based on healing and remedying skin ailments such as acne, eczema, scars, dry skin and more by using all-natural ingredients to produce quality skincare. Unfortunately, today, few companies provide natural solutions for these issues, with many top-name brand companies JUST NOW jumping on the "Go Green" bandwagon. What's worse is that many have no idea that my business exists and are still doing the same old dance and rhyme, trying to find products that work for them only to find out the search hasn't ended.

Funds obtained through my fundraiser will go towards clearing debt and acquiring effective marketing methods to gain a more significant following and establish a better social and digital presence. I would also like to pursue professional advice and guidance on ways to improve the day-to-day operations, as well as network with local retailers to gain shelf space. With these measures and more, I would like to secure a brick-and-mortar location to provide an up close and personal experience to local consumers.
