Hi Friends,
As you know we are offering AddisCoder once again in 2018. AddisCoder is a 4 week intensive algorithms class for top public high school students from all regions of Ethiopia. Our alumni have gone on to prestigious Ethiopian universities such as Tikur Anbessa Medical school and American ones such as Harvard, MIT and Princeton. Our goal is to create a curriculum that can be sustained by students from Addis Ababa university and others to make sure that the untapped potential of our youth is fully realized. You can read more about our program and our alumni here: http://addiscoder.com/#alumni
At AddisCoder, we know that there can be no African empowerment without women's empowerment. Thus, women constitute over 45% of our student body and 42% of our TAs.
We are currently about $5k short of funding. We hope that with your support, we can continue to have this class for years to come. I just finished my postdoc at Microsoft Research in NYC and have been involved in AddisCoder for the past 2 years. I am, once again, an instructor for the course and also expect to help some of our students apply to top schools to pursue computer science as I have done before (e.g. Yosef Enawagaw, a 2016 AddisCoder alum who is now at MIT). The funds we raise will be used to reimburse me for the flights of 3 TAs (Myra Cheng , Sahaana Suri and Pratiksha Thaker), and accommodation of one TA (Sahaana Suri) for AddisCoder. I paid for these costs out of pocket.
