My daughter was diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder. Some of the symptoms are ADHD, anxiety, depression, opposition defiance disorder among others. We took Hope to an intensive out patient program in Colorado in September for Reactive Attachment Disorder. During this trip some seeds were planted for Hope about her disorder, but for the most part she did not participate in the program.
Hope has had a rough life with many trauma's. Her mother and I divorced when Hope was only 3 months old. I wanted to be involved with Hope's life, but her mom, who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and was an alcoholic kept me out of Hopes life. It was a 2 year court battle, but finally custody was switched from her mother to me. Hope's mother continued to drink and was arrested a couple of times, and was in the hospital a few times for trying to commit suicide. Hope and I had a very difficult relationship as well. We had our own arguments and hardships so it wasn't as if I didn't help to cause trauma in her life. Hopes stepmother and I got divorced, and later reconnected and got remarried. In the few years that we were divorced Hopes mother died from her alcohol addiction. Then we moved from Delaware to Florida when Hope's stepmother and I got remarried.
It was a hard choice for me and Hope's stepmother to send her to Trails Carolina, which is a wilderness program that treats young men and women with mental health disorders. I initially took out a personal loan to send her to the program. At home her behavior was getting out of control and we realized that we couldn't provide the help for her that she needed. We looked for a program to send her to and after contacting several we decided to send her to Trails Carolina. It was $27,630.00 for the first 42 days of the program, but the program lasts for 90 days and we can't take out another personal loan to keep my daughter in the program. My wife and I are going to pay another $13,000.00 to have my daughter Hope in the program for another 20 days. We need an additional $17,000.00 to keep Hope in the program for the last 30 days or she will need to leave the program. Our extra 20 day period will end on June 6th. That is why we are asking as a family for help.
