Funding for ruptured Achilles surgery
Donation protected
Hi, I’m Hannah, a 24-year-old elite high jumper. I adore high jump, and have done for the last 10 years. I have put my all into this sport and have sacrificed so much, but I always knew it would be worth it.
I was competing in the Czech Republic recently, where I jumped 1.78 and progressed to 1.81. However, while attempting the jump, I snapped my Achilles, resulting in having to resign from the competition and get rushed to hospital. Although I resigned in this international competition, I placed 3rd even without finishing jumping. Being carried off the high jump bed and doctors confirming it was a complete rupture, I stayed calm and positive because I know I will do my all to get myself back where I belong - jumping high.
This season has been short but I learnt and understood how to jump high, and did so recently when I jumped 1m81 for the first time. This was a huge breakthrough for me as I had a personal best of 1m75 for 8 years and finally broke free. This was the year everything would come together and I could show everyone what I am truly worth. Unfortunately, I cannot jump for the rest of the year, and the thought of not being able to high jump is heartbreaking and makes me feel lost.
I will be requiring immediate surgery due to the severity of this injury, and unfortunately due to nursing strikes and surgeon selection, I will require private treatment.
As I am currently undergoing a Master's degree (Psychology in Education) whilst also working part-time, I am unable to fund this surgery myself and would appreciate any support or contribution towards the hospital and physio bills so I get back to the sport I love.
