Dear Friends, Family, and Supporters,

Sadly, we are saying good-bye to our dear Indira, who passed away Thursday, May 9th in Washington D.C. after a long battle with cancer.

We are raising funds to honor the memory of a remarkable individual whose character and personality touched the lives of all who encountered her. Indira was a dedicated teacher with a passion for early childhood education. She worked at Marie Reed Elementary School in Washington D.C. where she taught for many years. Her charismatic spirit and unwavering dedication to her students left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Indira's journey as an educator was not just a profession; it was a calling. Hailing from Colombia, she brought a rich tapestry of culture and warmth to her classroom, fostering an environment of learning and inclusivity. Her students didn't just learn their ABCs and 123s; they learned about kindness, empathy, and the joy of discovery.

Beyond her role as a teacher, Indira was a cherished friend to many. Her infectious enthusiasm and genuine care for others created bonds that transcended classroom walls. She was a beacon of positivity, always ready with a smile and a kind word to brighten someone's day.

Indira was a fighter in every sense of the word. She faced adversity with grace, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her legacy of love, kindness, and perseverance will continue to inspire us all.

We also would like to extend our gratitude to her family – her devoted sister and loving mother – who stood by her side throughout her courageous battle against cancer. Their unwavering support and love were instrumental in giving Indira the strength to face each day with courage and dignity.

In honor of Indira's memory, I, Patricia Donati, who worked with Indira at Marie Reed Elementary School in Washington D.C. for many years and we also became very close friends, I am creating this fund to help her sister Vera Malgarejo with the funeral cost and related expenses for her family.
