Funding my studies at Emily Carr University

I am an international student from the Dominican Republic with a central professional goal of catalyzing transformation and making a tangible difference in my surroundings. I aspire to contribute to ongoing positive changes pursued by numerous individuals. This is why I chose to attend Emily Carr University of Art and Design; it offers the resources, environment, supportive community, and networking opportunities essential for achieving this objective.

Initially enrolled in the Fine Arts / Visual Arts program at this school in September 2023 with the expectation of graduating in May 2026, unforeseen circumstances have arisen. Regrettably, I will not be able to graduate as planned due to financial challenges my mom and I are facing with my grandparents' sickness. My grandfather has throat cancer, and my grandmother has Alzheimer's. Therefore, I am seeking your assistance to continue my studies. Completing my education is not only my dream but also my grandfather's wish. Their illness has added significant strain to my mom, who is the sole financial and emotional support for our family. She has already shouldered the burden of funding my studies through loans, and now she is also managing the financial responsibilities of my grandparents' care. I am eager to alleviate some of her stress, as she is my greatest inspiration and the light of my life.

Currently in my 3rd year of Fine Arts / Visual Arts, I have 4 semesters remaining to complete my bachelor's degree. As a budding artist at the beginning of my career, obtaining my bachelor's degree is crucial for my professional journey. Emily Carr University is globally renowned for nurturing talented artists, and it has lived up to its reputation during my tenure. I have been fortunate to engage with exceptional individuals here, including experienced professors and immensely talented peers, forming lifelong friendships and valuable connections.

Originally planning a 2-year program at Emily Carr University, an additional year poses a significant financial challenge due to high tuition fees and the current situation for international students in Canada. Despite working at Chipotle to save money for university expenses, the financial gap remains daunting. Therefore, I humbly seek assistance for my enrollment in the next academic year.

With 2 years remaining to achieve my goals and secure a better future for my family, I intend to use any funds received to cover tuition for the fall and winter/spring semesters, living expenses, and necessary art supplies. I have worked tirelessly to overcome personal and familial challenges to reach this point. I am determined to prove my talent, discipline, and commitment to making a positive impact in the world and for my family.

Soy una estudiante internacional de la República Dominicana con un objetivo profesional central de catalizar la transformación y hacer una diferencia tangible en mi entorno. Aspiro a contribuir a los cambios positivos en curso que buscan numerosas personas. Es por eso que elegí asistir a la Universidad de Arte y Diseño Emily Carr; ofrece los recursos, el entorno, la comunidad de apoyo y las oportunidades de establecer contactos esenciales para lograr este objetivo.

Inicialmente inscrita en el programa de Bellas Artes / Artes Visuales en esta escuela en septiembre de 2023 con la expectativa de graduarme en mayo de 2026, han surgido circunstancias imprevistas. Lamentablemente, no podré graduarme como estaba planeado debido a los desafíos financieros que mi madre y yo enfrentamos con la enfermedad de mis abuelos. Mi abuelo tiene cáncer de garganta y mi abuela tiene Alzheimer. Por lo tanto, busco su ayuda para continuar mis estudios. Completar mi educación no es solo mi sueño, sino también el deseo de mi abuelo. Su enfermedad ha agregado una tensión significativa a mi madre, quien es el único apoyo financiero y emocional para nuestra familia. Ella ya ha asumido la carga de financiar mis estudios a través de préstamos, y ahora también se ocupa de las responsabilidades financieras del cuidado de mis abuelos. Estoy ansiosa por aliviar algo de su estrés, ya que ella es mi mayor inspiración y la luz de mi vida.

Actualmente estoy en mi tercer año de Bellas Artes / Artes Visuales, me quedan 4 semestres para completar mi licenciatura. Como artista en ciernes al comienzo de mi carrera, obtener mi licenciatura es crucial para mi trayectoria profesional. La Universidad Emily Carr es mundialmente conocida por formar artistas talentosos, y ha estado a la altura de su reputación durante mi mandato. He tenido la suerte de relacionarme con personas excepcionales aquí, incluidos profesores experimentados y compañeros inmensamente talentosos, formando amistades para toda la vida y conexiones valiosas.

Originalmente, había planeado un programa de 2 años en la Universidad Emily Carr, pero un año adicional plantea un desafío financiero significativo debido a las altas tasas de matrícula y la situación actual de los estudiantes internacionales en Canadá. A pesar de trabajar en Chipotle para ahorrar dinero para los gastos universitarios, la brecha financiera sigue siendo abrumadora. Por lo tanto, humildemente solicito ayuda para mi inscripción en el próximo año académico.

Me quedan 2 años para lograr mis objetivos y asegurar un mejor futuro para mi familia, por lo que tengo la intención de utilizar los fondos recibidos para cubrir la matrícula de los semestres de otoño e invierno/primavera, los gastos de manutención y los materiales de arte necesarios. He trabajado incansablemente para superar los desafíos personales y familiares para llegar a este punto. Estoy decidido a demostrar mi talento, disciplina y compromiso para generar un impacto positivo en el mundo y para mi familia.
