For almost 30 years, Rabbi Monty Eliasov, a dedicated scholar, educator and spiritual leader in the Greater Austin Area, served as Rabbi for a small congregation. He’s officiated in hundreds of life-cycle events; a pioneer in presiding over interfaith marriages. So accustomed to serving others, Rabbi Monty finds it difficult to accept assistance. Almost 80, with a shrinking income, diminishing health and a lack of family support, he needs help to find safety, comfort and care in his golden years.
His Social Security covers little more than his rent, leaving him inadequate funds for food, clothing, utilities, medication, insurance or transportation. Additionally, cognitive challenges make it difficult for him to comprehend the gravity of his situation.
Those closest to him have formed a team to attempt some modicum of stability, but he needs to move from his 3rd floor apartment to appropriate and affordable assisted living facilities, providing safety, transportation, healthy food and medical attention; a community where he may continue his amazing research, teachings and spiritual leadership. This takes time. Until then, we need to keep this wonderful man, this Rabbi, from being homeless and hungry, because despite the challenges, Rabbi Monty continues to give everything he has. It’s time to ensure that his remaining years are filled with comfort and dignity.

Blumofe, Congregation Agudas Achim, Rabbi Marie Betcher and Rabbi Amy Cohen, Executive Director, Shalom Austin Jewish Family Service, endorse this appeal. Some of whom will be participating in the upcoming fundraiser.
Our goal is to raise at least $75,000.00, which should help him to survive until he is in a more stable and suitable situation.
