Dear friends, family, and compassionate community members,

We are heartbroken to share the tragic news of the untimely passing of 13-year-old Anthony Lopez, lovingly known as Baby Tony on 6/30/24. My son's life was tragically taken due to a gunshot wound to the stomach while visiting us in Houston, Texas.

Anthony’s story is one of resilience, kindness, and unyielding optimism. Despite a tough childhood and many challenges, Tony was on a path of positivity and hope. He was known for his impeccable manners, constant smile, and the ability to find joy in the simplest things in life. His happiness and infectious laughter brightened the lives of everyone who knew him. That kid was going places.

My boy was a promising athlete at Saint Columbia Academy football team in the Tri-Cities area of Washington State, where he lived with his father. He was not only driven and talented but also deeply motivated and genuinely happy. His coaches, teammates, and friends admired him for his dedication and his respectful nature.

Tragically, on the day before he was to fly back to Washington, Anthony went to visit an old best friend from 3rd grade. While at the apartment of his friend's acquaintance, a 15-year-old boy recklessly handled an AR-15 type firearm. Despite Anthony’s pleas for caution, the untrained and inexperienced individual discharged the weapon, striking Tony in the stomach.

My son's final moments were filled with confusion and pain, leaving his friend helplessly trying to keep him conscious. His last words, “What is happening to me?” echo in our hearts, a painful reminder of a life cut short.

Our family is devastated, struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss. We are reaching out to you for support. The funds raised will help cover funeral expenses and provide some relief to our grieving family during this incredibly difficult time.
