Fundraise 500 Fantastic Library Books for Stormont House

This summer Stormont House School will be completing an exciting project to create a beautiful new library. This will get everyone reading for fun, boost literacy learning and provide a quiet, welcoming space at the heart of the school.

Stormont House School is an exceptional and widely-respected special school designed to meet the needs of students with a combination of communication & interaction needs with moderate learning difficulties. These needs would significantly affect their ability to learn, thrive and develop in a secondary mainstream setting. We became one of the first outstanding schools in the country in 2005 and have improved at each of the 4 full inspections since then (most recently in April 2024).

It is a school priority to improve our students’ access to high-quality books to build up a life-long love of reading. An underused corridor space is being converted into a welcoming new library, with comfortable seating, nooks and accessible shelves to meet the needs of all students. Because our school community is among the most deprived nationally, fewer of our parents have the resources to contribute directly to this, so we need to reach out further.

The school and community are now coming together to fundraise £2,500 for 500 fantastic new books to boost stock and launch the new library with a bang!

The school is able to fund the building work and a base stock of books, and of course any texts used in English lessons are already provided for in the school’s curriculum budget. However, we want to ensure there is a fund for a wide selection of great new books to meet different needs and interests, chosen by students and teachers, that will inspire the whole school community to enjoy the magic of reading.
