Funding an Integrative Approach to Cancer
Donation protected
Hello friends,
As many of you know, I continue my fight against stage 4 colon cancer. For those of you who don't know, I was diagnosed back in March of this year. This came as a huge surprise as I have no family history and was considered too young for this type of cancer. Because of that, my symptoms were ignored by most doctors, and they blamed postpartum for most of my issues. Eventually I had enough and demanded answers, this led to them doing a colonoscopy which detected the cancer. I later learned it was stage 4 and had already spread to my liver and lungs. Since then I have endured 13 rounds of chemo and a surgery to remove the tumors in my colon and liver. I still have multiple small mets in my lungs but as of now, everything continues to be stable which is good! However after intense research, Anthony and I have decided to take a more integrative approach, one that works in conjunction with conventional medicine. We have decided to add a naturopathic oncologist and a specialized nutritionist to our cancer care team. Unfortunately, none of these integrative approaches are covered by insurance because it is not FDA approved in the US even though it is approved and practiced in Europe and other parts of the world and have a multitude of peer reviewed studies backing up the efficacy.
I have a lot of hope for these natural approaches and don’t feel satisfied settling with a limited conventional approach. I have read positive story after story of how these integrative practices have helped cancer patients with their side effects, avoiding a cancer reoccurrence, increasing the efficacy of chemotherapy, and for some going into remission when they were given no hope. Additionally there is minimal to no side effects with these practices. I have already been doing a few integrative practices since the beginning of my cancer journey, and I attribute these things to why I have been able to tolerate chemo so well.
Given none of this is covered by insurance, we still have to pay for conventional medicine, and I am currently only earning disability pay, we thought we would welcome you all in this way, in case anyone feels called to help financially.
Here is the breakdown of the expenses that we are trying to fund:
•$2,500 fee to engage with the naturopathic oncologist for an intensive 6 weeks
•$750 fee for the specialized nutritionist that looks at my specific blood work and genetic testing to determine my best diet and identify nutritional deficiency
•$700 for extensive blood work to see different inflammation markers/areas of concern and deficiencies
•$1,200 for different specialty testing such as genetic testing, hormonal testing, toxin and pesticide sensitivities, GI tract testing and anything else they determine would be beneficial to test
•$350 specialized water filtration system for our home
•$500 annual supplement regimen (already covered by someone's generous donation)
•$2,500 mistletoe therapy for the year (I have been reading into this and find it absolutely fascinating!)
•$500 medical supplies and other nontoxic switches that need to be made around the house (already covered by someone's generous donation)
