Fundraise for Charitable Tanzania Expedition
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Maddie, and I am fundraising for a world challenge expedition to southern Tanzania. I, along with a select group of trained individuals, will spend three weeks exploring Africa's landscapes. Included in this time, we will be journeying to Zanzibar to help repair and improve buildings, clean up the coastline and learn about the community and culture.
Between the 22nd and 28th of October, I will be completing the 3 peaks. I will fundraise for my trip by climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon. Please sponsor me!!!

Problem
Remote communities in Tanzania face many challenges. Factors such as limited infrastructure, remoteness, climatic extremes, environmental damage and few opportunities for sustainable income generation are critical obstacles to overcome in order for communities to prosper.
My Initiative
My initiative contributes to SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities by working toward the following indicator of success:
“By 2030, ensure access for all to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services and upgrade slums”
The Solution
The organisation I will be collaborating with works with rural communities in Zanzibar to develop basic infrastructure. Their activities focus on improving housing in villages on the island's south side, a world away from more touristic areas. Life relies heavily on the coastline and other natural resources – coconut husks are a key building material, and their prevalence is capitalised upon. The organisation also supports the community in income generation activities, including using the coconut husks to make ropes and other items which can be utilised or sold.
