Fundraiser: Cancer Charity Event

What is Pike Fest? 

The Beta Mu chapter of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at The University of Texas at Austin is excited to expand our philanthropic activities this year.  In an effort to improve our community outreach, we are pleased to announce Pike Fest – our first annual concert series that will take place on April 15, 2017.  This 14-hour charity event will be held at the Pi Kappa Fraternity House on 24th and Leon St. and will essentially be a music festival for charity.  The event will feature live music, food, and dancing from 12 noon until 2 A.M.

 

What is our Mission?

The core of our mission is to raise awareness and funds for philanthropies we feel have significant impact on our community.  We will support both the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Taylor Trudeau Cycle for Life Foundation with the proceeds from ticket sales and sponsorships.  St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a leading research and treatment hospital for kids with life-threatening illnesses.  Pikes at the University of New Hampshire founded the Taylor Trudeau Cycle for Life Foundation in honor their brother Taylor Trudeau who battled Leukemia.

The St. Jude Foundation:
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a leader in research and treatment of childhood cancers and other life-threatening illnesses.  The foundation began in 1962 under the leadership of Danny Thomas who was inspired by St. Jude Thaddeus, the patron saint of hopeless causes.  Making this foundation exceptional is the fact they never ask families to pay for treatment who do not have insurance.  We at Beta Mu are humbled to support this reputable foundation.  For more information regarding the amazing capacity of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, please visit https://www.stjude.org

 The Taylor Trudeau Foundation:
Taylor Trudeau Cycle for Life is a foundation started by Pikes at the University of New Hampshire in 2009.  The foundation honors their brother, Taylor Trudeau, who passed away from Leukemia.  The organization raises funds for Leukemia and other blood cancer research.  “Cycle for Life” refers to the stationary cycling event various chapters do to raise money.  Today over 126 pike chapters have raised over $500,000 year to date.  At Beta Mu we will donate half of our proceeds from Pike Fest to support our brothers’ efforts across the country.  For more information on this remarkable cause, please visit https://www.taylorcycleforlife.org.
