Building Anti-Imperial Resistance from Colombia to the U.S.
Donation protected
Update: We are excited to announce that we are moving forward with the tour with the help of funds from SUNY-Cortland University. The tour will begin in NY, stop in DC, and potentially have a final stop in Minnesota.
The tour will begin on September 16 with 5 days in NY and 5 days in DC.
We have used the funds previously raised to apply for visas for 3 members of the band. Currently, we still need funds for food, housing, and transportation costs while the band is in DC.
Ex donations:
$20- 1 meal for one
$150- transportation costs for a day
$500- housing costs
We would like to raise at least $1,000 by September 1st to support these costs for 7 band members. Any amount you can donate, from $5 to $250 helps!
Thank you all for being a part of building transnational resistance and alternatives to Imperialism.
Music for Change
To build bridges and connections between humanity and Mother Earth, to create anew and reinvigorate- this is what we need to overcome climate destruction, imperialism, and cultural disenfranchisement. From Colombia, Daira Quiñonez and her band creates this change through music. We would like to bring the sound of memory, connection, land and so much more to the United States in a Spring 2024 tour. We are crowdsourcing to fundraise for travel expenses to make the tour a possibility. Can you donate today to support these efforts?
Our plan is to arrange a musical speakers tour that criss-crosses the East coast of the United States with performances at a variety of venues from community to academic settings. Each song tells a story and is rooted in ideals for communal transformation. The music offers a venue through which to heal and build connections of care.
The band is linked to the Fiesta del Plátano organized by Abuela Daira. The fiesta takes place across 5 departments in Colombia every fall. The festival uses the connection with the plantain to honor and reinvigorate historical memory and shared ancestral knowledge of Black, Raizal and Palenquero people. Throughout the band’s tour of the United States, they would continue to build connections to the Fiesta del Plátano to grow its impacts. You can find more about the fiesta here. https://lafiestadelplatano.com/index-en.html
Your donation would help fund the airfare and other travel expenses of 5 members of the band.
