Service Dog Fundraiser for Sophia
Donation protected
Hey Everyone! This is Darcy and David - We wanted to share some BIG NEWS with you about what is coming down the road for our nine-year-old daughter, Sophia.
In just a few short months, Sophia will receive her own service dog!!! MICKEY will help her not only with day-to-day tasks, but also by protecting, nurturing and providing her emotional and physical support!
For those of you who do not know, Sophia has a rare genetic disorder called 1p36 Deletion Syndrome. She faces more difficult challenges than typically developing kids, and Mickey is being specially trained right now to help Sophia navigate those challenges. If you know anything about service dogs, then you’re probably aware of the time, training and financial investment that goes into them. This has been a huge investment for our family and now we are reaching out to help fundraise for this last part of Mickey’s expense. Any help you can provide is so appreciated and your kindness will forever be etched into our family through Mickey!
Mickey will provide mobility assistance that comes in different forms for different situations. He will provide pressure therapy when needed, which will help tremendously with her sensory needs, alerting tasks that will help keep Sophia safer (e.g. blocking her from walking out into traffic), assistance with daily tasks, and most of all he will provide love and an emotional support we can all only imagine.
Mickey is a special, 50/50 Goldendoodle, who we know will bring so much love and happiness to our home while adding so much value to all of our lives.
Mickey is wise, gentle, patient, and incredibly smart and we cannot wait to welcome him into our family. Though Mickey will be Sophia’s Service Dog, he will also get to enjoy his life as our family dog too! He enjoys the work as well as the snuggles - we have already fallen in love with him!
We have included some pictures from Mickey’s first year showing him in both work- and play mode :)
*We found Mickey through a wonderful organization, Healing Canines and he has been professionally trained through Love in the Lead. Both organizations are based out of Charlotte, NC.
