Fundraiser for Adam Blackford and Family

Hi, my name is Kimberly Stone, and this is my son James's best friend, Adam. On Thursday, March 24th, while completing a long day of tree trimming for his company this young man suffered a terribly twist of fate. As he was leaving, he went to get his things from the back of a work truck. Unfortunately, the truck driver did not see Adam and pulled forward, pulling the chipper it was hitched to forward, and pinning Adam. He was then drug 70 feet or so due to the chainsaw harness getting caught up in the wheel.

In the ER, they sent Adam into surgery, but unfortunately, they could not save his left leg. This beautiful, sweet, humble, and hard-working 20 year had to have his left leg amputated above the knee. James has practically lived at the hospital and Adam's mom Angie, brother Alex, and devoted girlfriend, Alyssa.

Tonight is James's prom, and even though he has worked so hard on the prom committee, he is spending the night tonight at the hospital with his best friend. With a large cheese pizza, garlic knots, and his Nintendo switch in a bag, there wasn't any hesitation on what he was doing tonight. "Prom is just one night, mom; he has been my best friend for a lifetime."

This band of wonderful kids has grown up in my backyard over the last fifteen years; if you know my stories, they are my "alley kids.". James has spent equal time with Adam and considers Miss Angie's house his second home. We have gone camping, had birthdays, sleepovers, cookouts together, and now these kids are young men. I spent an hour or so just looking through pictures tonight and shedding a tear or two. My heart is broken for Adam, and I cannot fathom how Angie feels.

Heartache has been too familiar to this family, losing Steve, the father, to a sudden heart attack that took him immediately in his sleep five years ago. It has been a struggle that I can't imagine to keep things running, and there have been financial drains the family has weathered, but this accident has truly gut punched them. The need for assistance in this situation is dire.

James and I are hoping that by setting this page up, we can help them with the mounting medical bills, the things that will have to be adapted and changed at their home, and the loss of income his mother Angie is experiencing by his side at the hospital. Mostly though it is so Adam can focus all of his energy in getting stronger, not stressing over the money that his rehabilation is costing.

With the upper amputation, it will take longer to rehabilitate. The hospital already has Adam up and in physical therapy. Adam worked hard and was successful with the tasks. The metatarsal fracture on the right will slow his progress in learning how to stand and then walk. Imagine trying to put all of your weight on a broken metatarsal. Yet, in true Adam fashion, he is doing his best to push himself.

All of this has been an overwhelming 72 hours, and there will be many, many hard days ahead. I am sure the family will experience a wide range of emotional highs and lows, frustration and anger. Still, I have never met anyone with Adam's resilient personality and constant hard grit to survive the most demanding challenges, always with a smile. Our family loves this young man, and we love his family. Thank you for anything you can give to help them during this time in their lives. I truly appreciate it, and I know they deserve the blessing.
