Fundraiser for Aman

Hi, My name is Amanpreet Kaur, and I have started this GoFundMe page for myself as I had applied for a student permit for Canada in 2020 to pursue higher studies but my process was halted because I was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer in November 2020 and underwent my first surgery in March 2021 to remove the thyroid gland. Even though surgery was successful, I still have to undergo radiation therapy every 6 months as cancer is still present in my body at cellular level and cannot be operated on.

In year 2022, hope had again come into my life as my radiation therapy came back as negative which meant that I can go to Canada and be an international student as I always wanted, but life had different plans, as my cancer came back and another radiation therapy came back positive just 10 days before my flight to Canada. I was not able to get the therapy before my flight as the iodine solution was not available but I was cleared to fly to Canada and achieve my dreams.

I came to Canada with dreams in my eyes but my cancer grew to my lymph nodes due to which I had to come back to India in April after completing my winter semester to get radiation therapy but it again came back as positive. I came back to Canada in May and studied hard for my second semester. My health started declining and upon getting an ultrasound done in Canada, it was determined that my lymph nodes had grown and have 11 lymph nodes in my throat and need surgery to get them removed. I paid for the doctor visits and ultrasound out of my pocket as my health insurance would not cover it. Therefore, I again had to go back to India in August to undergo surgery to remove the enlarged lymph nodes. I underwent the surgery on 16th October, 2023 and is on bed rest for a month.

The medical and travel expenses from going from Canada to India and coming back has created a huge financial burden on me and my family since I belong to a farmers family and we did not earn well due to the floods in Punjab because our crops were destroyed. On top of it, I still have to pay $9000 for my third semester fee to be able to enrol for Winter 2024 semester. There will be another $8,000 expense in April, 2024 to pay tuition fee for my last semester.

I am unable to pay for all these expenses. I want to raise money to help with my ongoing treatment and also provide some financial support during this difficult time.

Please help me in making a difference in mine and my parent’s life as it is extremely difficult on them as well.
