ABOUT US:
We are Kabir (age 13) and Ameera (age 11), a brother and sister pair, who want to help our community and our country.

A few years ago we started a company called ArtShackCrafts to raise money by selling bracelets and cards we made for causes we are passionate about.  We are proud to donate 100% of all sales towards our chosen organization.

Our past projects include:

1) Raising funds for ACLU for detained immigrant children
2) Raising funds for the American Red Cross to support the California wildfire victims

THIS FUNDRAISER:
We want to help with current issues but we can't go to protests because we are sheltering in place. Initially, we had been moved by what is happening right now during COVID-19 and the Black Lives Matter movement but we didn't know how we could help. We are inspired by how people everywhere are coming up with ways to help their community whether sewing masks, printing face shields (helping doctors like our mom) or joining protests. We decided to combine our passion for music and our company to help raise money for these causes.  We couldn't set up a drive-by sale of our bracelets through ArtShackCrafts like we normally do but came up with a way to use our bracelets and raise money online while providing a musical performance.

We set out to figure out which organization we would like to support.  We wanted to help fellow youth in our community. We couldn't decide between the need to educate and the need to feed so we are going to do both!

We chose Black Girls Code for two important reasons.  First, Kabir loves to code and wants to promote more people enjoying his passion.  Also, Ameera remembers her family talking about how their workplace doesn't have very many people of color or women in high level roles.  One way to fix that is by increasing education to these at-risk groups right in our community and also across the country.

Education isn't as effective on an empty stomach!  We are very familiar with being 'hangry'. So we chose Second Harvest Food bank because they have been overwhelmed by community need during COVID-19 right in our community.  Their needs went up 85% during COVID-19 and African Americans have been particularly affected both financially and healthwise.

** We have to collect donations and distribute them ourselves since GoFundMe doesn't allow us to select two recipients.

INFO ON THE ORGANIZATIONS (100% of all money raised will be equally divided among two organizations):

1) Black Girls Code

Black Girls CODE is devoted to showing the world that black girls can code,by reaching out to the community through workshops and after school programs, Black Girls CODE introduces computer coding lessons to young girls from underrepresented communities in programming languages such as Scratch or Ruby on Rails. By promoting classes and programs we hope to grow the number of women of color working in technology and give underprivileged girls a chance to become the masters of their technological worlds. Black Girls CODE's ultimate goal is to provide African-American youth with the skills to occupy some of the 1.4 million computing job openings expected to be available in the U.S. by 2020, and to train 1 million girls by 2040.

2) Second Harvest of Silicon Valley

Second Harvest of Silicon Valley is one of the largest food banks in the nation. Currently providing food to more than one quarter of a million people every month, Second Harvest is a trusted community-based organization that was founded in 1974. The Food Bank distributes nutritious food, including more fresh produce than any other food bank in the country, through a network of over 320 nonprofit partners at more than 850 sites.
