Fundraiser for Bryson Lopez

Aloha, this is the family of Bryson Lopez. We are currently still in the process of navigating the direction for Bryson and his current situation. His brother, Greg Lopez, is currently in Oregon handling his care and affairs in the meantime as other family members are assisting from his hometown in Hawai'i. Here is a message provided by our family:

 

Bryson and his dad both caught Covid recently. Bryson also has an underlying medical condition known as diabetes. His dad found him in his room unresponsive on Oct.12th. It was definitely a scary time for the family here in Hawai'i not being present to help with getting care. When he got to the hospital, they sedated him and put him on a ventilator to give oxygen because his oxygen intake was extremely low and started running tests.

The doctors found that Bryson had 3 blood clots that has caused a series of 7 strokes and are currently in a coma.

One clot is still bleeding so they have to wait until it stops before they can treat the clots.

Bryson has some damage to his brain that they can see, they just don't know to what extent.

It appears he is able to respond to some commands, recognize voices, and comprehend somewhat of what is being said. However, they are pushing for time for the bleeding to stop and see how much the damage has affected his ability to communicate deliberately.

 

The prognosis is that he needs time to heal. The doctors said that he would need at least 6 months of care in a long-term health facility before we can think about bringing him home. This is weighing heavy on our hearts as we have come to also financially prepare to take care of Bryson's bills such as his mortgage, car, medical expenses, possible long-term care in a medical facility, etc. We take on that responsibility to facilitate care that would lead him to have a successful recovery. But we can't do it alone. His brother Greg is having to take time off of work to assist his brother during this time while still supporting his family at home, especially as his father is still recovering from covid and has been limited during this time. And we need your help.

1. Bryson's bills (Home, car, Medical maintenance of coverage- this will change due to Bryson not working and the cost is unknown at this time)

2. Bryson's medical bills (medical bills incurring due to medical stay and care, and future bills due to continual medical care).

4. Flying back and forth to Oregon to maintain Bryson's care and recovery

5. Possibly moving Greg and his family out to Oregon for a season to help take care of Bryson.

Bryson's prognosis and care are changing as his needs progress on a daily basis. We are hopeful that God will hear our prayers and allow us the means to navigate this for Bryson's full recovery.
