Every year, thousands of children are born with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in Nigeria but they are overlooked and shadowed by preventable diseases, hence given little or no attention.

It is believed that 1 in 100 children are born with CHD, and most of them need life saving procedures especially in their first year of birth. About 80% of children diagnosed with CHD are living on the minimum wage ($30) and cannot afford private consultations, let alone cost of surgery. On the other hand, the Nigerian public healthcare system lacks the resources and expertise to care for these children, further worsening the situation and increasing children mortality and morbidity.
