Fundraiser for Clay and Alyssa Henkel
Donation protected
I want to begin by saying my name is Courtney, sister to Clay Henkel and Aunt to Alyssa Henkel. Sadly, I say this wholeheartedly that Clay and his daughter Alyssa have been faced with a sudden tragedy, not to mention a life-altering event.
Horrifically, on April 9th, a gut-punching and out of nowhere situation occurred. Blindsiding. Patty Henkel passed away with no given warning. Patty is wife to Clay Henkel and mother of Alyssa Henkel.
If I could rewind for a moment, only shy of a month (3-18-22) did my brother and Patty remarry. It was the most precious day. The family got to see these two reunite, but most importantly, my niece had the opportunity to see her parents together again. It was beautiful.
On April 9th, Patty Henkel had an asthma attack, leading to a full-blown panic attack resulting in her cardiac arrest. My brother performed CPR while my niece called the paramedics. Patty passed in the ambulance. Completely and beyond traumatic.
I want to provide insight that may help others understand the absolute depth and severity of this situation.
Clay suffers from a chronic health condition where he is on permanent disability and receives a fixed income. In addition, he has six bulging discs leading to multiple spinal procedures and back surgeries. If we can be honest, having these conditions without health insurance isn't great...for anyone.
My brother has chosen to make the best out of his situation. I guess in a traditional sense, he became the stay-at-home mom. Cooked, cleaned, grocery shopped etc. This system worked for them until now. Without a steady income, things are terrifying.
Patty's career of voice was ALWAYS working in pet chains, strictly management. This woman had the biggest heart and pure passion for animals. Her love for animals was contagious. Clay has always loved animals, and whew...did he ever meet his match. Helping disadvantaged, neglected and unwanted pets was their "thing" beyond admirable. At the same time, my brother and niece face a tough road, as do these animals. These animals now thrive but require everyday essentials, which unfortunately do not come cheaply.
Losing Patty so suddenly has been extremely difficult for family and friends, mainly Clay and Alyssa. Sadly, given the circumstances, they could potentially lose a lot more.
Anything family, friends, or even strangers could spare could significantly increase the probability of a better outcome for my brother and niece and their four-legged friends. Any small amount will not go unappreciated. Our family will be forever grateful.
