Give to Someone Who Has Given So Much

Hi, I am Nahid, and on behalf of my family, I am seeking contributions to help with medical expenses for Maryam, my dear sister and devoted wife of Mohammad Dezgaran. As you might have heard, Maryam has been stricken with a rare, degenerative neurological disorder. This disease is known as Multiple System Atrophy (MSA-C). Information about MSA-C can be found here. It has been challenging for Mohammad and Maryam to bear all of the expenses related to home health care, physical therapy, hospital/rehabilitation costs and accommodations needed for their home. As their ongoing costs have surpassed their ability to keep up, we humbly ask for your help.

 

We are all shocked and saddened about this condition, which has devastated Maryam physically and emotionally. In what seems like mere moments, Maryam went from a proud, healthy, independent, vibrant, and active woman to one who now needs 24-hour care.

 

Maryam’s beautiful story of coming to the United States of America as an ambitious teenager who spoke limited English while pursuing her love of education to the highest level of academic achievement is inspiring. Not only did she earn her doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University, but along the way, she became a teacher, professor, guest lecturer, and writer. Maryam has been married 30 years to Mohammad (who worked for 30 years at UCLA Lab School), and they have a daughter Auveen who graduated from NYU and lives in New York. In addition, Maryam has been a mentor to the hundreds of students who were privileged to be in her classes during the 20-plus years she served in the Los Angeles Community College District as a Child Development Instructor.
