Fundraiser for Humane Society of Grand Bahama
Tax deductible
UPDATED: Due to Hurricane Dorian, I have increased my fundraising goal as the shelter is desperate for funds.
Right now the director, Tip Burrows has finally been able to get to the shelter and sees that there are unbelievably 50 cats that survived and 75+ dogs that have survived (have 250 animals there usually). So while many have not made it, it is amazing that this many did! 6 workers volunteered to stay with the animals and had to be rescued because there was water up to their necks inside. They are heroes. Island is partially submerged and shelter in dire straights.
As part of my preparation for my Bar Mitzvah this coming year, I am raising money for the Humane Society of Grand Bahama through the Kohn Foundation. Money raised will be used for medicines, vaccines and puppy lifts off-island to give animals a home. I am also collecting gently used and new pet supplies, including medicines, leashes, collars and toys, to bring to HSGB in December when I (planned to and hopefully will still) travel there to volunteer for a week.
If you donate $25.00 or more I will mail or hand-deliver to you either a pet bandanna for your cat or dog or a necklace with a cat or dog charm on it until I run out. Please specify if you have a preference for cat or dog necklaces or a bandanna or if you do not want any of these items.
I have set my goal at $918.00 (updated to $1,818) because 18 is a sacred number in Judaism because it is symbolic of giving "chai" or "life." I want to give life to dogs and cats who, without our help, might not have a chance to survive.
Our family has adopted two Potcakes (island dogs) from HSGB, another from Tennessee and previously one from Puerto Rico. They have brought us immeasurable amounts of joy and love.
The Humane Society of Grand Bahama was founded in 1968 to provide safe harbor for the island’s homeless and abused animals. It is the only animal welfare organization on the island, which encompasses 530 square miles and has the Bahamas’ second largest urban area (Freeport). They take in over 1,400 animals annually. The island’s human population is more than 50,000. HSGB is committed to alleviating animal over-population and suffering on the island. (Taken from HSGB web site).
Thank you for giving!
