Fundraiser for Kara Mullen and Family

Donation protected
The Mullen Family needs our help! On Sunday, October 4, Kara Mullen went to the emergency room with terrible abdominal pain that she could not get under control. While there she was diagnosed with a softball size ovarian tumor. The doctors were able to get her pain under control and they then sent her home to wait until they could get a surgery scheduled for the removal of the tumor. Not long after Kara was home her family became concerned about her again, this time thinking her pain medication was causing her to act out of sorts. Her husband, Aaron, knew he needed to call 911 when Kara asked him how to post an assignment online, something she had been doing regularly since March, and also noticed that the left side of her mouth began to droop. Once at the hospital, Kara was diagnosed as suffering from a moderate stroke. The doctors also found blood clots in her lungs which were making it difficult for her to breathe on her own. Upon further testing the doctors also detected a hole in her heart.

As of Saturday, October 10, Kara remains at the hospital. She has gotten some of her strength back in her left arm and better movement in her face. It seems that some of the blood clots are slowly dissolving and some functions are improving. Kara currently has heart surgery planned for Tuesday, October 13 to close up the hole in her heart. Then 2 weeks later, she will have surgery to remove the tumor.

Both Kara and Aaron are high school teachers in the North St. Paul- Maplewood- Oakdale school district. They have 3 lovely children of their own who are staying as strong as they can during this tragic time for their mom. As you can imagine, Kara has a long road ahead of her to recovery. Though Kara will be able to eventually get some disability benefits, those benefits do not cover the amount of her regular full-time salary, a salary that they depend on to pay their bills and support their family. Between the medical bills and loss of salary, the Mullen family needs our help!  Please consider donating whatever you can to help alleviate some of the financial stress that comes alongside a medical emergency like this one. The last thing they need to worry about right now is how to continue to make ends meet. Donate now and help Kara focus on recovering!
