Fundraiser for Kathy DuVall after the house fire
Donation protected
Kathy suffered a house fire on the morning of December 6th. She is currently hospitalized and three of her beloved foster dogs died in the fire. This Go Fund Me is to help Kathy cover costs not covered by insurance.
WHAT HAPPENED:
Kathy DuVall, a dear friend to many, fierce dog lover and the founder of FaerieLand Rescue endured a devastating house fire the morning of December 6, 2021. The fire started in her kitchen and she attempted to put it out with a fire extinguisher only to find it was not working. The fire spread too quickly and her immediate instinct was to get the dogs out of the home. The dogs that made it out to safety are currently being cared for at a boarding facility. While her therapy dog Charger is fine, she is devastated that 3 of her foster dogs didn’t make it out of alive. Kathy is currently hospitalized but will be physically okay.
A few friends visited her home on December 6th and you can view the short video above that shows a fragment of the damage. We’ve included photos of the dogs whose lives were lost. Most of her belongings will likely not be recoverable. While her home is not a total loss, it will require extensive repair for the fire, smoke, and water damage.
Those of us that know Kathy well, know that she puts everyone else, most importantly her four-legged family, ahead of herself. Kathy is not one to ask for help for her own personal needs, and we know she has so much support behind her in this community. Kathy has left her mark on each of our lives in so many ways, and she really needs the support of her friends, family and community to help get her through this very difficult time. It’s been a financially challenging few years for many, but anything that you can give is so much appreciated. Let’s gather together and rally as much as possible to help Kathy rebuild her life, her home and recover from this very tough and traumatic experience.
BACKGROUND ON KATHY:
Kathy has been involved in the dog world most of her adult life. She began breeding and showing German Shepherds which quickly morphed into her passion for training therapy dogs. Kathy began as just a foster mom for another dog rescue for about 9 years, but as she became more and more involved in the rescue world she saw a great need in Minnesota for a rescue for German Shepherds and Corgis. She loves all dogs and breeds passionately, but she has always had a deep connection to the German Shepherd and Corgi breeds which is where FaerieLand Rescue, which Kathy founded in 2009, focuses the majority of its resources. The rescue was created in the heart and home of Kathy Duvall. She opened her own home to so many dogs over the years, and as people came to know she was someone who could help find homes for German Shepherds and Corgis, someone who could help rehabilitate them when others had given up on them, more and more people came to Kathy when they had dogs needing help or if they were looking to adopt a dog. Since 2009, the rescue has grown immensely but still with the same personal attention, focus and mission that Kathy dedicated herself to so long ago. The organization became an official 501C3 non-profit, foster-based rescue in 2016. She continues to volunteer in the community with her own therapy dog.
Kathy doesn’t have a lot, but what she does have she pours into the dogs she cares for and foster. Kathy usually fosters the toughest cases, the traumatized dogs who are in need of the extra time, attention and care needed to heal. She never wants to have to say no to a dog in need. Our biggest fear for Kathy is that this tragedy could take the wind out of her sails and derail her ability to continue what she is most passionate about and what she lives for, saving the dogs that need her.
Let's help Kathy alleviate the stress and financial burden of rebuilding a life from nothing. Make a donation to help with the costs not covered by insurance.
ABOUT ME:
Hi, my name is Jaxi Schulz. I am a friend of Kathy DuVall’s. I connected with Kathy over a mutual love of dogs, specifically for me, corgis. I am blessed that Kathy helped connect my family with the sweetest corgi mix named Bo back in 2015. I remained connected to Kathy even after my family moved away from Minnesota and in 2019 she recruited me to be on the board of FaerieLand Rescue. Here is a picture of Kathy with our FaerieLand Rescue dog, Bo, when she visited us.
