Fundraiser for Kenny Gilmore and Howard Deli

The iconic Howard Deli, located on Georgia Avenue NW, sadly had to close its doors after 40 years of serving the community. Owner Kent “Kenny” Gilmore has suffered several strokes and can no longer continue maintaining the deli. Additionally, COVID significantly impacted sales at the deli since his beloved Howard University and Benjamin Banneker High School Faculty and Students were not physically present to create foot traffic into the deli. Kenny has sustained mounting medical and business related bills over the past 10 months. Unfortunately, his health condition will not allow him to remain at home with his loved ones and is currently residing at an assisted living facility with around the clock care, which is very costly. A 41-year Veteran of the US Army (Sergeant Major), Kenny has been a constant staple and leader in the community. He truly loved and appreciated his HU and Banneker family, always greeting them and standing in the front door holding long conversations. We will truly miss his “Ghetto Iced Teas”, Breakfast Croissants and sandwiches. Please help Kenny and the Deli in their time of need, just as he has helped and supported so many others over the years. Kenny is a fighter and will prevail! **The organizer of this fundraiser is Lydia Briscoe, Kenny Gilmore’s oldest sister. I was born and raised in Washington DC and currently reside in Silver Spring, MD. The funds raised from this campaign will be used to pay outstanding medical bills and business expenses for the deli, as well as nursing home costs for my brother Kenny Gilmore. Since Kenny is suffering from early onsought dementia after several strokes, I am his power of attorney and therefore, all funds raised from this campaign will be used solely on his behalf.
