Fundraiser For Laid Off Real News Staff
Donation protected
Emergency funds for one dozen laid off Real News employees.
On December 8, 2020, amidst a deadly pandemic and just before the Christmas holidays, The Real News gave two weeks' notice to a dozen employees, including 10 union members. We’re told that cuts to funding made the layoffs necessary, but that doesn’t soften the blow, which amounts to more than half of our bargaining unit. Our coworkers are brilliant, talented, and hardworking, and do not deserve this. The United States is in the worst economic recession in nearly a century and enhanced unemployment benefits have long expired.
Please give what you can to ensure they have a bare minimum safety net, since our government has absconded its responsibility to do so.
UPDATE ( 12/10): Thanks to a donor, employees’s healthcare coverage has been extended six months.
All donations to this GoFundMe will be distributed between the laid off Real News employees.
Any amount helps.
