Lovforslaget vil resultere i:
- 5 års fængsel for homoseksuelle relationer

It is dangerous to be queer in Ghana. The state is homophobic, the society is homophobic, the system is homophobic. The law criminalizes gay relations. While no one has been punished for being queer, it is not rare that angry homophobes will take the law into their own hands, and therefore many queers fall victim to hate crimes such as violence, discrimination and blackmail. Not all victims survive. There has been a rise in homophobic hate crimes in recent years, since an anti-LGBT bill has been introduced to the parliament. The bill seeks to:
- Sentence queer people to 5 years in prison
- Punish LGBT advocacy with up to 10 years in prison
- Criminalise provision of service of any kind to queer people
- Criminalise advocating for the repeal of the bill

It was announced by the parliament at the end of October this year that the bill will pass before the next election in 2024

Politicians, organisations, celebrities and civilians are afraid to show their support, since it can have consequences if the bill passes. And the LGBT+ community is in a desperate situation, where the risk that their mere existence will be criminalised is real.

LGBT+ Rights Ghana put their lives at stake in the fight against the homophobic status quo. They are fighting directly against the horrific bill, they take care of vulnerable LGBT+ persons and victims of hate crimes, and they are providing a safe space for the LGBT+ community where queer people can come together and empower each other.
